🏠 At home help for 🔥 Hot Spots
Hot spots or Pyotraumatic Dermatitis is typically a well defined area of red, swollen skin and hair loss.
Common causes include food sensitivities, itching due to fleas, environmental allergies, chronic moisture and contact with irritants.
It is most important to get to the root cause! For food sensitivities, I use Nutriscan (code JUDY10 for a discount). For environmental allergies, I used Spectrum Labs. Work with your vet on this.
Good grooming is critical for healing hot spots. For long haired pets, it is best to trim hair away from the area. I prefer the Project Sudz Organic Medicated Shampoo & Conditioner Bars.
🧽 Keep the area clean and dry. Do not let your pet lick, rub or scratch the area!
You can also use a soothing topical like:
– Project Sudz Hot Spot Relief Balm
– Project Sudz Hot Spot Relief Spray
– kin+kind Hot Spot Relief Stick
– CocoTherapy Coconut Oil
– Center of Eden Manuka Honey
– Buck Mountain Wound Balm
– Woof Creek Boo Boo Balm
For oozey sores, my favorite drying topical is animalEO Skin Spray Base with French Green Clay.

Hot spots can be very painful and relief is important. If the area doesn’t look better after home treatment, be sure to contact your veterinarian.
