This week we are talking with Dr. Thomas N. Bryce and Ethan Ruby about pain control and how the use of Medical Cannabis may help control chronic pain particularly as it relates to spinal cord injury.
Dr. Bryce is a professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Mount Sinai-Icahn School of Medicine. He has served as the Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Program at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC since 2001 and is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a sub-specialty certification in both Pain Medicine and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. He is involved with research related to spinal cord injury especially as it relates to the assessment of pain and neurological function after spinal injury and is considered to be a leading expert in the field of spinal cord injury and pain management.
Ethan Ruby is a well known philanthropist and the president and CEO of Theraplant, a company which produces and processes legal medical marijuana in Connecticut. He is also the president of the Connecticut Medical Cannabis Council.
Ethan has become a notable figure in debates over medical marijuana in part because, after a traffic accident left him a T6 paraplegic with debilitating neuropathic pain, he testifies to personally experiencing the benefits of cannabis for control of severe pain.
