The Jamaica Spirit Weed
Spirit Weed, also known as Chadon, Shadon or ShadoBeni in other parts of the Caribbean, is a perennial and annual herb that belongs to the Apiaceae family. Spirit weed is commonly used in Jamaica, and the wider Caribbean, for its well-documented medicinal properties; the plant has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. The plant’s root and leaves can also be boiled as consumed as herbal tea. This tea is used to treat ailments such as the flu, constipation and pneumonia. In traditional medicine, spirit weed is also used to treat fever, diarrhea and vomiting.
