Curcumin, derived from turmeric, has anti-inflammatory properties and can help with depression and anxiety. Rhodiola is an adaptogenic herb that helps the body adapt to stress and can improve mood and reduce anxiety. Saffron has been found to have benefits for libido, especially in individuals taking SSRIs. Lithium orotate can help calm the amygdala and reduce anxiousness and impulsivity. Other supplements mentioned include 5-HTP and tryptophan for serotonin support, Mucuna and tyrosine for dopamine support, and GABA for calming the brain. Dr. Bongiorno also emphasized the importance of finding a practitioner who will listen and help address underlying issues contributing to mood disorders.
