Christians sometimes ask weird questions of non-Christians, and particularly of atheists or agnostics. One such question was asked of me recently. The question was “Why are you angry at a god you believe doesn’t exist?”
In a way I understand why someone would ask this. It’s somewhat like asking why I’d be angry at Santa Claus when I know he’s not the one who didn’t give me a good present but instead put coal in my stocking. And, of course, I wouldn’t be angry at Santa because I know he doesn’t exist.
So why is the god of the Bible different? Well, there’s a huge difference. The belief in the god of the Bible hurts people. And, no, believers in this book don’t misuse it to hurt others. They use it. Sure, sometimes it’s just an excuse to be cruel to others, but the Bible is full of cruelty that its god not only allowed but commanded.
That’s the answer. The Bible causes harm and even death to human beings. But let me elaborate on the answer.
