@Hookedonwildventures What an exciting day this is for me (Margie). I get to do my own reconnaissance adventure looking for this secret campsite where an outlaw hid and thrived. He lived there for about 14 years before police found out where he was and arrested him for reasons you will soon find out. Would it have been the same time as Malcolm Douglas scouting the same region of the Kimberley, Western Australia?
First up, Ricky and I wake up in time for low tide to shuck oysters off the rocks for my breakfast. Yep, you heard it right, I have to have oysters for breakfast when we are around this area in Cone Bay, Western Australia. If anyone were to tell you that you cannot have oysters for breakfast – unless they have experienced it themselves, they wouldn’t have a clue! haha! Wherever the tide is right at where we are, I would see if I can shuck oysters off the rocks. At this end of the world, all the black lipped oysters are huge! They are also so naturally salty, you almost need to take a slice of lemon with you with a hammer and screwdriver (my tools for shucking them).
Later that morning, Ricky catches and releases a long tail tuna. We already had fillets in the fridge from one we caught the day before so we only keep fish that we will eat.
I then spend a good part of my morning scouting this secret hideout (Xenex camp) and I fell in love with the flowing water all around the base of the camp. The best part of it is? There is no one there! It is a bit trick to get to as you will need a small tender and you have to watch for tides before you can have a dip in the cool waters and enjoy the historical find. I nearly slipped several times because the rocks are so slippery. The Spinifex grass are also so itchy so a good pair of trousers always helps. I actually forgot to put on my snake guards (it’s this cover I wrap around the bottom part of my legs as protection from snakes, in case there are any). Thankfully, there weren’t any snakes that said hello to me. I’m sure there were snakes around for sure. I had to shimmy up some rocks and then climb some bigger boulders to find this clearing…the rest we hope you enjoy watching what I found.
Ricky catches a golden snapper for dinner that night. We would like to thank our good friend, Jimmy Shu of the Hanuman Restaurants for the delicious green curry sauce that we used with our catch and cook dinner. The curry is silky when eaten with basmati rice (which I cook fresh on board). I also use SaladMaster at home so unfortunately, my kitchen at home is raided of its pots as I take them with us on the caravan and then onto the boat as well!
We have started using Epidemic Sound’s great tracks. We think it’s pretty cool to listen to, don’t you? The talented artists whose work we feature in this episode are:
