For thousands of years cannabis was used as a medicine and had many medicinal uses. One of which was to alleviate pain. But, In 1972, the US Congress placed marijuana in Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act because they considered it to have “no accepted medical use.”. As a result of this action pharmaceutical painkillers are now responsible for more deaths in the United States than heroin and cocaine combined. With no sign of slowing down, the painkiller industry is becoming rich while innocent people needlessly die and suffer with the high rate of painkiller abuse. Cannabis can do what most pharmaceutical painkillers do and better and there is plenty of evidence to support this fact. Cannabis also does not have the bad side effects that are associated with pharmaceutical painkillers. A person can overdose and die using pharmaceutical painkillers. This can not happen using cannabis, yet cannabis remains illegal just so that a few individuals can get rich. Society as a whole can not allow this criminal act to continue while loved ones suffer needlessly. Please educate yourselves on the many benefits of cannabis so that you can pass this oppressed knowledge on to others that are in need. Thousands of years of traditions and knowledge can be lost in one single generation through oppression of information. Society must not allow this to happen and pass on the knowledge of cannabis’s many benefits. It is time for the needless suffering to stop.
