Discussing Cannabis and THC (#asthma #cannabiseducation #cannabisheals)- The potential role of THC as a rescue bronchodilator to save lives in β-agonist (Albuterol) resistant asthmatic patients. The pathophysiologic mechanism of THC causing Inhibition of smooth muscle contraction in human Bronchi and how closely this mechansim resembles albuterol.
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways.
Cannabis not only reduces inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin production, but also has components which produce actions similar to that of Albuterol- The front-line treatment of asthma!
We’ll wrap up with a quick mention of the specific physiologic target which creates the downstream effects of opening airways (bronchodilation) through activation of prejunctional Cannabinoid CB1 receptors.

R E A D T H I S if it’s difficult to speak with your DOCTOR
CANNABIS PATIENT-PHYSICAN COMMUNICATION CONUNDRUM:
Sometimes it can be difficult to speak openly to your physician about Cannabis. Some are great and some can be difficult (to put it lightly). There’s a huge spectrum on how well physicians are educated on cannabis and how it might safely fit into your healthcare plan. It will take time, but current physicians did not have medical cannabis included in their medical education so it’s our job to fight for your cannabis related health until a new era of physicians is born.
Don’t be intimidated anymore- it’s your medical right and now legal right (at least in most states) to use Cannabis for its medicinal value. If you find it difficult to speak with your physician REACH OUT TO ME FOR HELP. I can help you with presenting specific articles backed with evidence-based medicine to help create healthy communication between you and your physician. You must stand up for yourself and I can arm you with the right questions to ask your physician, which leaves them with (at least) an ethical obligation to review the research articles that you will provide.
I know what it feels like to live with something terrible and feel like there are no other options… If there is even the slightest chance I can help you find one more option, I will do everything in my power to do so. You have my word.
Doctors are mostly unreachable, and I want to change that.
Here are all the ways you can connect and contact me for help. Please reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Dr. Thomas Henke, D.O.
