This was my most recent Cleveland Clinic Neurology Grand Rounds lecture on 9/3/19, titled “Cannabis and Cannabinoids in Migraine and Chronic Pain: Benefits, Harms, and Legal Implications”.
This provides a brief historical perspective, reviews the major cannabinoids CBD and THC including a discussion on CBD products, describes the terpenes, reviews the more scientific and current chemovar (Types I, II, III) classification and contrasts it with the older cultivar classification (Sativa, Indica, Hemp/Ruderalis), summarizes the scientific literature for cannabis/cannabinoid use in chronic pain and migraine/headache, provides clinical use highlights and guidelines, reviews potential harms and adverse effects of cannabis (including cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, peripheral vascular, addiction/dependence, withdrawal, neuropsychological), as well as the legal implications of cannabis and cannabinoid (THC, CBD) use.

Please note, there are some slides in this presentation that I’ve updated. I have also added additional slides with newer information and data in more recent lectures. I will be posting more up to date videos, lectures, and discussions soon. Lastly, Cleveland Clinic policy currently prohibits it’s physicians from recommending medicinal cannabis with a Certificate to Recommend (CTR), so this video is for educational purposes only.
