Beta-Myrcene:
A super sedating terpene found in cannabis.
– Myrcene is the most prevalent monoterpene in cannabis
– In my opinion, there is too much of it in too many chemovars
– Myrcene is found in hops, thyme, lemongrass and mango, and celery leaf, and Its aroma is described as earthy and herbal.
– If I had to pick only one terpene, in combo with THC, that’s responsible for the sedation or couch-lock effect from cannabis, hands down its b-Myrcene
– Medical benefits:
o Anti- inflammation via PGE-2 (Lorenzetti 1991)
o It’s a muscle relaxant
o Extremely sedating when combined with THC – narcotic like effect possibly via inhibition of glutamatergic receptors
o Analgesic/pain killing properties
– Analgesic in mice that was antagonized by naloxone, supporting an association with the opioid receptors or at least pain reduction via a mechanism other than CB1 or CB2, possible mu/opioid receptor **can be like narcotic like effect in new users**
o There’s therapeutic potential against osteoarthritis as it is protective for chondrocytes
o And its protective against gastric ulcers.
