Dive into captivating tales from New York City educators and world explorers, Don Buckley and Karen Blumberg, as they recount their recent journeys to India and Bhutan. While in Bhutan, they engaged with FAB23 Bhutan and extensively toured the country. They’ll delve into the insights they gained from the conference and share the wonders of their summer travels.
In addition, we’re thrilled to have Jesse Weisz of the Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO) as a guest speaker. Having also visited Bhutan in July 2023, Jesse will offer his perspective, contrasting and comparing his experiences with those of Don and Karen. Dive deeper into understanding Bhutan’s unique democratic model and their intriguing “Gross National Happiness Index”. Additionally, get an overview of GEEO, a dedicated non-profit that has empowered over 4,500 educators with travel experiences across 60 countries, enriching the lives of countless students through post-trip educational materials.
About Our Speakers
Karen Blumberg is a Technology and Innovation Coordinator working with faculty and students to integrate technology academically, creatively, and responsibly. Karen has organized TEDx events, Edcamps, and the Robo Expo. Karen has presented domestically and internationally about growing a professional learning network, using design thinking, integrating maker education, infusing science and math programs with robotics and programming, developing a social media plan for schools and organizations, cultivating STEM and STEAM initiatives, reimagining professional development, incorporating technology-enhanced projects throughout the curriculum, and harnessing new media literacies.
don buckley is a design thinker, innovator, and educator who uses design to create innovative solutions in education. He is the co-founder of Tools at Schools, Rewind Reset Forward and faculty at Teachers College Columbia University, an author, public speaker and workshop facilitator. don lectures and consults internationally on design thinking, entrepreneurship and innovation in education.
Jesse Weisz is the founder and executive director of GEEO Teacher Travel Programs. During and after college Jesse worked in film and photography, shooting catalogs for tour operators. In 2003, Jesse started his own new business development consulting company for European advertising agencies. In 2006 he began cutting back his consulting hours to start GEEO, which began running teacher trips in 2008. In September of 2010 GEEO received funding, hiring Jesse to work full time for a job he had been doing as an unpaid volunteer for the previous four years.

👑 The Queen’s initiative to set up shelters and provide counselors for victims of domestic violence during lockdown is a thoughtful and effective approach to addressing the issue.
🏔️ The highest point in Bhutan, Cella pass, was a place where families assembled prayer flags and shared their chai tea with visitors, showcasing the kindness and hospitality of the locals.
