In this patient education spotlight, Mary-Ann Fitzcharles, MB, ChB, discusses the use of cannabis as a treatment option for patients living with a rheumatic condition.
Dr. Fitzcharles is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology and the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit at McGill University in Montreal since 1982, was the lead for the 2012 Canadian guidelines for the management of fibromyalgia, a lead on the Canadian Rheumatology Association position statement on medical cannabis and is Co-Chair of the American College of Rheumatology Pain and Fibromyalgia abstract committee. Her recent work focused on pain management in the rheumatic diseases with publications addressing use of opioids and cannabinoids in rheumatology patients.
