The North West Community Safety and Transport Management Department is tightening its operations this festive season, with the deployment of a new 24-hour traffic police unit. The specialized unit, called The Eagles, will work hand in hand with police to combat criminality on all arterial roads, including cash-in-transit robberies, hijackings and road spikes. The province has recently been marred by controversy following a string of armed robberies against international tourists, including the recent armed robbery of 11 international tourists who were on a tour bus to Sun City on the R556 near Rustenburg.
