CBD usage in veterinary medicine is becoming a more popular option for pets suffering from painful osteoarthritis, seizures, and anxiety. In this episode of VerticalVet’s Vet Med School, we are joined by one of our preferred partners, ElleVet, to discuss what you need to know before recommending CBD products to your patients.
Dr. Joe Wakshlag, Chief Veterinary Medical Officer for Ellevet and professor at Cornell University, joins VerticalVet’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Ernie Ward, in a conversation about the current legalities, indications, and quality assurance of veterinary hemp-derived CBD supplements.
Some of the topics we discuss include:
CBD and CBDA absorption and differences across species.
CBD-rich hemp use across indications such as OA, atopic dermatitis, and seizures in dogs.
CBD-rich hemp dosing in anxiety may be different.
Differences in pharmacokinetics across species.
Quality control of hemp in the veterinary supplement industry.
