US allies to conduct joint patrols to counter China in South China Sea.
The US, Japan, and the Philippines are starting joint naval patrols in the South China Sea. This is meant to fight China’s growing aggression in the area. Politico, a U.S. news source, was the first to report on the plan. The patrols are part of a package of initiatives that the leaders of the three countries will talk about at their first-ever summit on April 11. The United States and the Philippines have already been doing regular joint searches, but this will be the first time that the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force joins in. The Asahi Shimbun in Japan reported that the event will happen as soon as possible.
