Making edibles at home can be so much fun! For a crude extraction all you need is some finely ground cannabis, a solvent (such as fat or alcohol), and heat. First, you will want to bake your ground cannabis in the oven for about 20 mins at 200 degrees F – by doing this, you are conducting a decarboxylation reaction, and thereby removing the acidic group from cannabinoids and allowing them to bind to receptors more easily. After baking your cannabis, combine it with your solvent of choice – I use butter – and cook on the stovetop on low heat for about 20 minutes. Then strain out your plant material and use the infused butter or oil in whatever recipe you please. With edibles, especially homemade edibles it is incredibly important to be cognizant of dose. For one and a half grams of cannabis with a half cup of butter, you will yield about 150mg of THC.
