Specifically, it expedites the licensing process for medical cannabis businesses. As initially passed last year, the law delayed regulators from licensing cannabis providers until January 1, 2025. Under the newly signed law, applicants can begin the process of applying for licensure as soon as July 1, 2024. [ad_1] Patients authorized to use medical cannabis products report decreasing their use of opioids, alcohol, tobacco, and other substances, according to a data analysis published in the journal Cannabis. Investigators surveyed 2,697 Canadian medical cannabis registrants. The mean age of participants was 54.3 years of age. Consistent with other surveys, respondents frequently reported substituting cannabis in lieu of other substances. Among those respondents prescribed opioids, 54 percent said that they had reduced their intake over the past year. Among those taking other medications, just under one-third said that they had decreased their use. Of those respondents who reported consuming alcohol,…

[ad_1] State lawmakers have advanced legislation (HB 285) to the Governor’s desk expanding medical cannabis access to seniors and others. The legislation provides discretion to physicians to issue medical cannabis recommendations to any patient who may benefit from it, regardless of whether or not they suffer from a state-specific qualifying condition. It also allows those ages 65 or older to self-certify for a registration card absent a doctor’s recommendation. Members of the House passed the bill by a vote of 26 to 10. Senate members approved the measure yesterday by a vote of 16 to 5. It now awaits action…

[ad_1] Members of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted 5-2 to defer any further action on legislation (SB 82) that sought to restrict many patients’ medical cannabis access. The measure sought to restrict patients from obtaining medical cannabis recommendations from anyone other than their primary care physician and/or certain healthcare providers recommended by their primary practitioner. Doctors who issued recommendations but who did not meet the bill’s narrow requirements would have been subject to criminal penalties. Passage of the measure would have greatly restricted patients’ access to medical cannabis since many primary practitioners are either uncomfortable speaking with…

A team of investigators affiliated with the University of Florida at Gainesville assessed cannabis’ efficacy in a cohort of 15 patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Participants in the study possessed a physician’s authorization to access medical cannabis products from state-licensed dispensaries. Study subjects were assessed at baseline and then again 30 days and 70 days later. Patients in the study typically used THC-dominant herbal cannabis. Researchers reported significant improvements in patients’ symptoms following…
